Photography on the Savannah

I finally got through editing the massive amount of photos I took on the Zambia trip, here's a little showcase of some of my favorites.

I consider myself a landscape and nature photographer, so getting to experiment with wildlife photography was a fun new challenge. I think that one of the best photographic experiences I had on the trip, and probably in all my time as a photographer, was at Chobe National Park in Botswana. There's a company named Pangolin Photo Safaris that offers specialized safaris that are completely oriented towards photography. Pangolin provides the camera, the 4lb Sigma 150-600mm lens (which felt like a monster compared to the 11.5 oz Sony 18-135mm that I own), a specialized boat with flexible arms on which to mount the camera, swivel seats, and a guide to aid with composition and exposure. Getting to go out for a sunset boat trip through Chobe with my cousin, Reed, and using the fantastic gear was really a-once-in-a-lifetime experience that left me with some of my favorite photos from the entire trip.

The dark skies of the National Parks provided me with an opportunity to have some fun with astrophotography, which is something that I don't get to do that often back in Madison.
